Scientific Name: Opheodrys vernalis
Etymology:
Genus: Opheodrys is derived from the Greek words ophios which means "serpent" and drys meaning "tree".
 Species: vernalis is Latin for "of springtime".
Vernacular Names: Common green snake, grass snake, northern grass snake, green grass snake, green whip snake, smooth-coated green snake, spring snake, summer snake.
Average Length: 11 - 20 in. (30.3 - 51 cm)
