Common Name: Southeastern Five-lined Skink
Scientific Name: Plestiodon inexpectatus (Southeastern Five-lined Skink) formerly Eumeces inexpectatus
Etymology:
Genus: Plestiodon is derived from the Greek eu meaning "good" and mekos meaning "length", referring to the long tail of the skink.
 Species: inexpectatus is derived the Latin prefix in meaning "not" and the Latin word expectare meaning "expectation". This refers to the unexpected discovery of this skink in the well-known lizard fauna of North America.
