Scientific Name: Ophisaurus ventralis
Etymology:
Genus: Ophisaurus is derived from the Greek words ophio meaning "snake" and sauros meaning "lizard".
Species: ventralis is from the Latin word venter meaning "of the belly", referring to the serpentine form of locomotion used by this lizard.
